C5 Hydrocarbon Resin SHR-86 Series For Rubber Tyre Compounding

Short Description:

SHR-86 Series are an aliphatic viscosifying hydrocarbon resin used widely in tyre rubber compounding. They don’t contain arene and have good compatibility with natural rubber and all kinds of synthetic rubber (including SBR, SIS, SEBS, BR, CR, NBR, IIR and EPDM, etc.), PE, PP, EVA, etc. They also have good compatibility with natural viscosifying resins (such as terpene, rosin and theirs derivatives). In rubber Compounding ,they can be used as: viscosifier, reinforcement agent, softener, filler, etc.

C5 Hydrocarbon Resins SHR-86 Series for Rubber Tire Compounding: Improving Tire Performance and Life

As a key component of rubber tire compound, C5 hydrocarbon resin plays a vital role in improving tire performance and prolonging tire service life. Among the different C5 hydrocarbon resin types available, the SHR-86 series stands out as a high-quality and cost-effective choice for tire manufacturers worldwide. In this blog, we'll explore the benefits and applications of the SHR-86 family of resins in rubber tire compounding and how it can help create better, safer tires for drivers.

What are C5 hydrocarbon resins and how do they affect rubber tire compounding?

C5 hydrocarbon resin is a thermoplastic polymer derived from petroleum distillates. It has a unique molecular structure consisting of a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic compounds, giving it excellent compatibility with natural and synthetic rubbers. When added to rubber tire compounds, C5 resins act as tackifiers, reinforcing agents and processing aids, improving adhesion, heat resistance and mechanical properties. It can also reduce the viscosity and fluidity of the compound during extrusion, calendering and forming, making it easier to process and form.

What makes the SHR-86 series of C5 hydrocarbon resins ideal for rubber tire compounding?

SHR-86 series C5 hydrocarbon resin is a special resin developed by Neville Chemical Company in the United States. It is produced through a state-of-the-art distillation and hydrogenation process that eliminates impurities and enhances stability, color and compatibility. SHR-86 series resin has the following characteristics:

- High softening point (100-115°C): This characteristic makes SHR-86 series resins suitable for high temperature applications such as tire treads where they provide good wet traction, abrasion resistance and durability.
- Low molecular weight, low viscosity: The low molecular weight of SHR-86 series resin makes it easy to blend with the rubber compound and disperse evenly. It also improves the wetting of fillers and reinforcements for better reinforcement and dispersion.
- Neutral Color and Odor: SHR-86 series resins are pale yellow in color and mild in odor, making them suitable for light color and odor sensitive tire applications such as whitewall and passenger car tires.
- Low volatility and toxicity: SHR-86 series resins are low in volatile organic compounds (VOC) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), making them safe to use and comply with environmental regulations.

How do SHR-86 Series C5 hydrocarbon resins improve tire performance and life?

Adding the SHR-86 series of C5 hydrocarbon resins to rubber tire compounds offers several advantages, including:

- Better wet and dry traction: SHR-86 series resins have a higher softening point, which improves the grip and handling of the tire on wet and dry roads, reducing the risk of skidding and skidding.
- Stronger rubber-to-cord adhesion: The tackifying effect of SHR-86 series resins enhances the adhesion between rubber and steel or nylon cords, thereby increasing the strength and durability of the tire carcass and belt sex.
- Improved thermal stability: The presence of SHR-86 series resins in the tire compound reduces heat build-up and deformation of the tread blocks and sidewalls, thus extending their life and reducing the risk of punctures.
- Reduced rolling resistance: The low viscosity and low molecular weight of the SHR-86 series resins reduce energy loss and friction between the tire and the road, resulting in lower fuel consumption and emissions.

In summary

C5 Hydrocarbon Resin SHR-86 Series is a high performance and cost effective solution to improve the performance and service life of rubber tires. Its unique molecular structure, high softening point, low volatility and neutral color make it ideal for a wide range of tire applications from passenger cars to heavy trucks. By choosing the SHR-86 family of resins in tire compounds, manufacturers can create better, safer tires that meet customers' growing demands for performance, sustainability and comfort.
